Lloyd Ravn

Obituary of Lloyd Douglas Ravn

Mr. Lloyd Douglas Ravn was born in Sussex on November 30, 1972; he was the son of Lois (Folkins) Ravn of Sussex and the late Gunnar Ravn who passed away in 2005. Hitting the open roads for adventure fueled Lloyd's spirit. Whether it was hitchhiking New Brunswick roads, cutting trails through Cotter Hollow with buddies before snowboards were allowed on Poley, or living in London with his wife, Jodi, while traveling Europe during their two-year working-holiday, Lloyd always was ready to say yes to a new experience. Lloyd's greatest thrill came with the birth of his children, Eric, Alex and Nicholas. The style of the adventures altered, but the excitement he felt grew. Sunday morning pancake breakfasts led to hiking through Ontario forests in search of the maple tree that may have shared the sap for their morning syrup. The boys loved most when those Sunday morning breakfasts were served from a cast iron pan over an open fire at campsites in Ontario, Grand Manan or Kouchibouguac. They devoured their father's flavorful, hearty food. Food was part of the adventure. It was during Lloyd's time in the Holland College Culinary program, from which he graduated in 1996, that Lloyd's love of food truly developed. During his time at college, he thrived in the kitchen and on summer breaks worked in restaurants in Banff and New Brunswick, all helping to fuel a lifelong passion. All of Lloyd's adventures were influenced by the strong, tightly-knit family into which he was born on November 30, 1972, in Sussex. Lloyd and his family, Gunnar, Lois, Christine, Mark, Carol and Lorrie all shared lots of laughs, starting with their name - they were too poor to buy a vowel. His humour had deep roots and Lloyd was always a funny guy. Joking around with his father was a pleasure Lloyd always cherished. Later in life, it encouraged him to take to the stage with his own personally-crafted jokes. He embraced every aspect of comedy and developed strong friendships through that meaningful and fulfilling ride. The youngest of five, Lloyd always felt he was joined by a fifth sibling in his close childhood friend, Rob Munroe. They were inseparable as children and as they grew up and moved away from each other, their bond continued. Lloyd developed, maintained, grew and cherished many bonds in his life. He loved his family and large circle of friends. He will be missed by many. Lloyd will live on in the hearts of his beloved wife, Jodi; their three beautiful sons: Eric, Alex and Nicholas; his mother, Lois Ravn of Sussex; his sisters: Christine Sheehan and her husband Humphrey of New Maryland, Carol Arnold and her husband John of Parleebrook and Lorrie Watson and her husband David of Millbrook; his brother, Mark and his wife Laura of Sussex Corner; his father and mother-in-law, Jim and Chris Andrew; his sisters-in-law: Paula Andrew of Toronto and Meghan Wong and her husband Kim of Sussex; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitation will be held on Monday, May 16, 2016 from 1-3 and 6-8pm.
