Life Story of Beverly Arthur Sharp

Beverly Arthur Sharp was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 16, 1931 to Dr. Harold Hayes Sharp and Mary Ellen (Allen) Sharp. As an infant his family returned to Sussex, NB and Bev lived in his original family home for the rest of his life. He graduated from Sussex High School in 1948 and from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy in 1956. Bev only ever had one job. It was there that he worked alongside Jarvis McQuinn and Teeny Sprague for 50+ years, carrying on the legacy that started with his grandfather and then his father, at Sharp's Corner Drug Store. In his younger years, Bev had a love of fishing, hunting and skidooing. Much to the delight of the 5 McQuinn children, Bev loved to share the joy of these hobbies. They fondly recall Bev's skidoo, the first they had ever seen and the excitement of witnessing the success of Bev's first moose hunt. Bev was a quiet and eccentric man. All who knew him, best described him as humble and kind. As the owner of a family owned and operated business that has spanned 3 centuries (1897 - 2016), he had a very strong presence in the business community for over 60 years. He has provided mentorship to so many novice pharmacists from around the world, helping them meet requirements to be licensed and to get started in their careers. Over the years, Bev has provided employment for many young people in Sussex. In his own quiet way, wanting no recognition, he supported countless organizations, charities and individuals in our community. Bev retired from Pharmacy 15 years ago but continued to take an active role in all business decisions. "Bethie Girl" with the administration duties, Margaret "the fairly sensible one" and John Clare.
