Dear Mark, Diane, Charis, Philip:
I want to convey my heartfelt sympathy in the passing of your father. He and your mother were our first "pastor couple" when we moved to Nackawic in 1969, and our two families enjoyed spending time together. Your Dad was a very caring and committed person. I also remember that he and Byron had some great times of fellowship as they served together on the building committee for the new Nackawic Church.

Dear Aida, Diane, Charis, Mark,Philip, and your families.
We were saddened to hear that Darrell died on Sunday, June 10. We spent our first Christmas in India with Darrell and Betty in Srikakulam. Shortly after, we were assigned to serve in the mission area south of the Godavari River. As a result, we did not see them very often - only at meetings of the missionaries and during summer vacations in the hills of South India. Even after we returned to Canada we did not see Darrell very often - only at meetings of Pastors, Convention, or other places.
We extend to you our sympathy and prayers. We pray that you will experience the love and strength of our Lord in your time of sorrow and loss.

I have been interested in your dad and his journey of missions and ministry through the years - having been a product of the same church (Marysville Baptist) - and having known the family through the years. My last encounters with your dad were a couple of visits to Cornhill Baptist when your mother was living and the last time after your dad had been remarried to Aida. I always impressed with his gentle but welcoming manner - and the opportunity to reconnect with our common roots - and our missionary experiences with CBM (particularly the India stories). To: Mark, Diane, Phillip and Charis,
We remember with fondness you father Darrell
and wish to convey to you our sympathy at his passing.
Your family joined us in Vizianagram in the late 50’s, fresh from Canada.
We had only completed two years of language study at that point and were new to the city and our responsibilities at the Leprosy Hospital. We shared with Darrell and Betty in the anxieties of learning what it was that God had planned for us.
Darrell was steadfast in his determination to be a faithful missionary. If it meant preaching simple Bible sermons on a village street, he did it. If it meant listening to endless tales of woe from poverty stricken families, he endured. If it meant forgiving those who deceived him in the market or in the church, he had a boundless store of mercy to dispense.
He had skills in construction and transport and the missionary life demanded those. He was generous with his time and efforts, and encouraged his colleagues Indian and Canadian.
We remember him and his service for Christ’s Kingdom.
