Obituary of Donald Robert Moffett
Donald Robert Moffett was born in Saint John on October 16, 1947 to David and Anne (McQuinn) Moffett.
He graduated from Sussex Composite High School and UNB with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree and worked briefly for the NB Industrial Safety Council as a statistician. In 1973, he returned to Sussex to work with his father and grandfather at Moffett's Hardware.
Don met and married Brenda Gillcash in 1971. They raised two beautiful daughters. Catherine, who lives in Grande Prairie, gave birth to Ryan, Brianna and Cameron Scott and Sarissa and Kaylana Dalton. Heather, who lives in Iqaluit on Baffin Island, gave birth to Jeneca and Seth Fanjoy.
Don loved sports and played golf, hockey and volleyball into his late 60's. He was an avid reader, but his favorite pastime was fishing. He was the resident "go to person" for salmon fishing.
Don was involved with many organizations, including Sussex Pregnancy Care Centre and most recently, Sussex Right To Life. He was a member of and served in the past, on the board of the Sussex Wesleyan Church. Don helped organize blood donor clinics in the 80's and made almost 150 blood donations.
On Sunday, January 22, 2017, Mr. Donald Robert Moffett passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at the Sussex Health Center at the age of 69.
Don was predeceased by his father David in 2007 and is survived by his wife Brenda and daughters Catherine and Heather; seven grandchildren; his mother Anne Moffett; his brothers Douglas (Ida) of Collina and Stephen (Marlene) of Penobsquis and his sister Margaret Crothers of Sussex, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Thursday from 6-8pm and Friday from 1-3 and 6-8pm.
A Celebration of Don's life will be held from the Saunders Irving Chapel (Kingswood University) 20 Wesley Dr, Sussex, NB, at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 28, 2017.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to World Hope Canada (Fishing), Sussex Right to Life or Kingswood University.
