Obituary of Roy Havelock Dunfield
Mr. Roy Havelock "Havie" Dunfield was born in Penobsquis on April 27, 1929 to Roy and Mary (Whitenect) Dunfield.
Havie worked for Sussex Cheese and Butter for 26 years before beginning at Beaver Lumber from where he retired in 1994. He was very active in sports: hockey, provincial bowling and baseball. The Golden Arrow baseball team, he played with was inducted in to the Sussex Wall of Fame on April 25, 2000.
He was a proud member of the Kiwanis Club of Sussex for 30 years and held the position of distinguished secretary for all of those years.
Family was very important to Havie and he loved every moment of the years that he and Doreen spent at Seaside Trailer Park. Everyone in the family seemed to have trailers there, it was like a family reunion every weekend.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doreen; his daughters: Debbie O'Donnell and her husband Danny of Sussex and Laurie Dunfield of Sussex; his son, Shane Dunfield and his wife Pauline of Moncton; his sister-in-law, Laurie Dunfield of Penobsquis; his grandchildren: Rachel O'Donnell of Millbrook, Leah O'Donnell of Saint John, Greg Dunfield and Kendra of Rockwood, ON, Tim Dunfield and his wife Chelsea of Hampton, Alan Mollins and Laura Mollins both of Sussex; his great grandchildren: Alicia Brown, Dylan Brown, Maddie Dunfield, Blake Dunfield, Peyton Dunfield, William Dunfield, Gabriel Mollins and Tristam Mollins; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, Roy and Mary Dunfield; his sister, Frances McPhee, his brother-in-law, Clement McPhee; his brother, Bryant Dunfield and by his nephews: Corey and Roy McPhee.
Roy Havelock "Havie" Dunfield of Sussex, passed away at the Sussex Health Center on January 26, 2017 at the age of 87.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitation will be held on Sunday 2-4 and 6-8pm .
A service celebrating Havie's life will be held from Penobsquis Baptist Church on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Mark Worth officiating.
