James Stevens

Obituary of James Alexander Stevens

Jim Stevens was born in Coles Island on September 7th 1927. He was the son of the late Thomas and Violet (Kierstead) Stevens and the husband of the late Evelyn Stevens who passed away in 2001. Jim was an "Outdoorsy Guy" in every sense of the word. He loved to hunt, fish and trap and was most comfortable in the wilderness. He could sit outside in his yard for hours at a time feeling peaceful as he looked out over the lake. Jim spent many wonderful times with his buddies at the hunting camp telling stories and making memories and his stories were extremely fascinating. He was the Master of the segway, always finding just the right way for one tale to lead into another and another and then another. Jim also had a talent for finding water with a divining rod and many folks over the years, were the receivers of this talent. He never took a cent in payment to and always believed that if he did, the gift would dry up and he'd never be able use it again. He had a few other interests outside of the woods as well. He enjoyed skeet shooting, watching boxing matches and rarely missed an episode of Mass for Shut-ins". Jim worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator most of his life with a particular talent for dozers. He spent many years working for Corey's earlier on and retired from Corbett and Cooper. Finally Jim was a family man. Nothing was more important to him than them. He lived for his grandchildren and never left them without first saying, "I Love You All". Jim loved to go for drives and made daily visits to Leslie's house in Coles Island after she returned home from work with the kids. Jim was a loving, kind and compassionate father and grandfather and will be deeply missed. Jim is survived by his daughters: Nancy Stevens and Leslie Stevens-Hachey (Trevor Champion); stepson Mike Bailey (Linda); son-in-law Eric Hachey; sister Marguerite Stilwell; sisters-in-law Alice Stevens and Arliss Doucette; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
