Obituary of Myrtis Elizabeth McLean

Mrs. Myrtis Elizabeth McLean was born in Collina on June 23, 1932; she was the daughter of the late George and Erna (Hayes) Kierstead. She met and fell in love with Angus Munn McLean and in October of 1951, they were married. They settled in Fox Hill where they raised their 4 children. Myrtis was well known for her cooking skills, which may have had something to do with many years working as a cook, helping to support the family. She had a lengthy career at the Tam O’ Shanter, which later became the Pizza Delight. Myrtis worked full time from 7-3 pm and was always home to greet the children after their school day ended. Supper was always on the table at 5 o’clock and lunch was ready at 12 every weekend. Many amazing family dinners were enjoyed compliments of Myrtis and she always ensured that EVERYONE had ample helpings of their favorite pie for dessert. When she retired from the restaurant in 1997, Myrtis found more time for her peaceful pastimes. She could always be found with a quilt on the go and many of the family have a special one of their own to treasure. After Angus’ passing in 2001 and at the age of 70, she took a driver training course and successfully obtained her license in 2003. With this new found freedom, she and daughter Liz were always on the move, they were inseperable. Myrtis kept driving until a fall set her back in October of 2016 which affected her mobility. She was a dedicated member of Calvary Pentecostal Church and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Although you may have been able to use the words hard-working and stubborn when describing Myrtis, her strength and determination was always presented in her gentle way. She was a kind and graceful woman. Myrtis will be forever in the hearts of her sons: Levi and his wife Ann of Sussex, Kenny and his wife Roxanne of Norton and Raymond and his wife Brenda of Balmertown, ON; her four grandchildren: Mitchell and Alexandria McLean-Lackie of Edmonton, Michelle McLean of Fort McMurray, Christopher Preston and Cassie Preston of Norton; her great grandchildren: Maddoch and Viola McLean-Lackie of Edmonton; her brother Lloyd Kierstead and his wife Mae of Ottawa, ON; her sister Ada and her husband Jim Casselman of Williamsburg, ON; several nieces and nephews and many extended family members. Mrs. Myrtis Elizabeth McLean of Fox Hill, NB, passed away peacefully at the Mill Cove Nursing Home on March 10, 2017 at the age of 84. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Angus McLean who passed away in 2001 and by her sweet daughter, Elizabeth who passed away in 2013. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176). Visitation will be held from Calvary Pentecostal Church (384 St George St, Sussex, NB) on Monday from 1-3 and 6-8pm. A service celebrating Myrtis' life will be held from Calvary Pentecostal Church on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 11:00 am with Pastor Troy Campbell officiating. If you are considering making a memorial donation the family has recommended the Crosswinds Centre, the Calvary Pentecostal Church or the charity of the Donor's Choice.
