Obituary of Gertrude Beatrice McIntyre
It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Gertrude Beatrice McIntyre of Sussex, NB who passed away peaceful and with family near at Bobby’s Hospice, Saint John, NB early morning May 2, 2017.
Gertrude was born June 3, 1942 in Cherry Hill, New Brunswick and was the third daughter/fourth child of Burpee and Blanche (Fisher) Molasky. She had a romantic heart and fell in love at 19 to Ivan Longmire of Hillsburn, Nova Scotia. She often has said that she loved being a wife, mother and homemaker. When her first true love died suddenly, she became a single mom and did all she could to raise her three young children, just 9, 6 and 4 years of age. Gertrude loved nature and taught her children to value and respect it from a very young age. She took pride knowing the names of native birds and plants. As a young mother she’d picnic with her sisters and their children in Cherry Hill. They’d pick wide blueberries all afternoon for a winter’s worth of jams and pies. Gertrude also loved music. Singers like Jim Reeves, Nana Mouskouri, John Denver and ABBA, as well as musicians like Gheorghe Zamfir and Frank Mills often played softly in the background of her home while she worked, baked, or read. Everyone who knew Gertrude, knew she loved to shop! She was the Queen of impulse purchases. But she could also spend an hour looking for just the right birthday, anniversary or baby shower card for a family or friend - that had to have just the right sentiment for the person and occasion.
Gertrude will be lovingly remembered by her devoted children Karen McNamara (Lawrence), Norine Longmire Aarons (Charles), and Keith Longmire; her sisters Francis Mott (Earl), Willa Bruce (David), Edith Coy (David), Nancy Adams and brother Harold Molasky (Mary Ellen). She will be missed dearly by her many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and even great great nieces and nephews and their families.
Arrangements are in the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB 506.433.1176, where visitation will be held on Friday from 6 to 8pm.
A Celebration of Gertrude’s life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 4:00pm. The interment will take place at the Plumweseep Cemetery where she will rest beside her last true love, Justin.
