Obituary of Ralph Edward Douthwright
Mr. Ralph Edward Douthwright was born in Carsonville on December 13, 1944. He was the son of the late Roy and Elizabeth (Carhart) Douthwright.
Ralph worked in the Sussex area most of his life, opening Ralph’s Auto Repair in 1983. He was rescuer to many stranded motorists over the last 34 years. He often kept in touch with people all over the world that he had rescued. He was fortunate to have met so many people from far and wide and was happy to be a part of the towing industry. He would often share happy stories about people he had helped. He left a big impact on many people who had met with misfortune and was a comfort to many. Many summer nights were spent with people staying in the backyard if their vehicle had broken down and Ralph was waiting for parts. Retirement was not of interest to Ralph. He was always busy whether it was building, running machinery, tinkering on special projects or coffee with friends and acquaintances and this filled his days.
Some of Ralph’s happiest times were spent with Evelyn, with whom he loved and cherished 49 years of marriage and who he always said took such great care of him , his children, of whom he was so proud and always their biggest cheerleader and eventually his extra special grandchildren. Everyone loved Pa and although he will be greatly missed, he taught them well and they will carry on his legacy. Everything from fishing to mowing the lawn the “right” way, these tasks will never be forgotten. Ralph loved fishing and spending time at the camp – he was so happy to finally have a place where he could go and putter, feed the deer some apples and maybe even sneak a little nap.
Ralph’s life over the years included being a Scout leader, a founding member of the NB Towing and Recovery Association and proud member of the Apohaqui and Lower Millstream communities. Ralph was a very selfless person, always putting others ahead of himself. He was a strong family first person and this has been passed on to his children. Ralph often was seen as a person who would gladly shared his opinion if asked but what people often did not see were the times he helped out families or a person in need or took a nice fresh trout to a local senior. That was the real Ralph and for those that did get to see this side consider themselves fortunate.
Rest easy Dad. Gone Fishin’.
Ralph will live on in the hearts of his beloved wife of 49 years, Evelyn (Carll) Douthwright; their children: Wanda Green (Kevin) of Ratter Corner; Kevin Douthwright (Robin) of Sussex Corner; Dan Douthwright (Nancy) of Four Corners, Sussex; Darren Douthwright of Vancouver BC; His brother, Tom Douthwright (Sherry) of Mt.
