Obituary of Paul Anthony Attoe

Mr. Paul Anthony Attoe was born in Sussex on March 10, 1964 to John Charles Frederick Attoe and Edith Hazel (Long) Attoe.

Paul was born on March 10, 1964 in Sussex, NB.  The son of John and Edith Attoe and the brother of Walter Attoe (Eliane Ouellette), Philip Attoe (Betty) and Faith Jenkins (Mark).

Paul was adored by his family including his six nieces, one nephew, great nieces and great nephews.  Paul grew up in Fox Hill, NB where he was a happy child who loved spending time with family and friends.  Paul enjoyed attending school, art lessons, singing, summers at Beulah Camp and keeping busy in church activities at Sussex Wesleyan.  Paul was known for his thoughtful thank you notes and for bringing others such joy.  "To know him was to love him", and everyone loved Paul.

Paul's genuine kindness and compassion for others was evident at the young age of 16 when he traveled to South Africa on a missions trip.  This trip began his life's journey into the ministry of serving others for the kingdom of God.

After graduating Sussex High School, Paul attended Bethany Bible College (Kingswood University), where he earned his  BA in Religion on May 10, 1986.  Paul then accepted the pastoral position at Grace Wesleyan Church in Halifax, NS until the winter of 1988, when returning home after after enjoying Christmas with his family, he was involved in a debilitating car accident that altered the course of his life.  This new journey not only brought great physical pain but struggles and life challenges that he quickly needed to accept and embrace.  Paul's decision to be positive, his determination, and steadfast faith in God allowed him to overcome this hardship and continue his ministry of helping others and being a great example to everyone he met.  Paul assisted other churches and ministers, he continued singing, and the lives impacted though his kindness and encouraging words continued.

When Paul's physical limitations increased, he then made another courageous decision to move to Autumn Lee in Moncton, NB for three years where he was lovingly cared for and able to continue the work of his ministry.  In 2016, following another physical setback and cancer diagnosis, Paul moved to the Oromocto Special Care Home where he received exceptional care and love.  Paul's positive attitude, fun teasing nature, sense of humor, quirky laugh and overall spirit of kindness and gratefulness quickly touched the lives of staff and residents alike.

For the past 29 years of many physical challenges, Paul never felt sorry for himself or ever complained, but rather he chose to show grace.  Paul is best described by a dear friend "Though Paul may physically look weak, he is the strongest man I know".

Paul will be dearly missed by all who knew him

He will live on in the hearts of his mother, Edith of Fox Hill; his brothers: Walter Attoe and Eliane Ouellette of Oak Bay and Philip and his wife Betty of Ingersoll, ON; his sister, Faith Jenkins and her husband Mark of Sussex Corner; his nieces: Vanessa Leland and her husband Stephen, Samantha Attoe, Danielle Micacchi and her husband Taylor, Kathleen Moore and her husband Mikhail, Sarah Melnyk and her husband Matthew and Marquel Jenkins; his nephew, Ryan Jenkins and his wife Carly; his great nieces and nephews: Cooper, Easton, Everleigh, Luke, Evan, Nathaniel, Elisabeth, Miriam and Joseph.

Mr. Paul Anthony Attoe went peacefully to be with the Lord on November 19, 2017 at the age of 53 at the Oromocto Special Care Home.

He was predeceased by his father, John Attoe who passed away in 2015.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-8pm.

A service celebrating Paul's life will be held from Sussex Wesleyan Church on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 2:00 pm.

If you are considering making a memorial donation the family has recommended the IWK or the Canadian Cancer Society.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Marty Hood and his team of nurses and staff at the Oromocto Special Care Home. Also to Amanda Betts and the caregivers at Autumn Lee in Moncton. The love, care and compassion that Paul received in these homes, words cannot express our gratitude and appreciation.
