Obituary of Gay Elizabeth Lyons

It is with sadness that the family of Gay Elizabeth Lyons, age 76, of Sussex, NB, announces her death which occurred on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Sussex Health Centre.  She was born on August 12, 1941 in Sussex, NB, a daughter of the late Guy and Thelma (Slipp) Campbell.

After graduating from Sussex High School, Gay attended Teachers College and taught in Newtown for one year, then moved to Halifax where she worked at Maritime Tel and Tel for 29 years.  She married George Lyons on April 29, 1966 and later they decided to live separated lives.

Gay lived up to her name as she was happy-go-lucky, smart, funny and often the life of the party.  A generous person she liked to read, watch curling, listen to Johnny Reid, travel and especially liked playing cards.

After retiring Gay moved from Halifax to Quispamsis and then to Sussex.

Gay is survived by her sister Lynn Godwin of Sussex, NB and niece Kelly (Richard) Poitras of Saint John, NB.  Besides her parents, Gay is also predeceased by her aunts May Campbell, Barbara Campbell, Birdie (Alton) O'Dell, Jean (Slipp) Templeton and uncle John Templeton.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex NB (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 from 2 to 4pm.  The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 2:00pm from Atlantic Community Church, Apohaqui.

The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Haslett and his wife Megan as well as the staff of the Sussex Health Centre.  Hugs to all of our friends for all their help and support.

Donations in memory of Gay may be made to the memorial of the donor’s choice. Condolences to the family and donations may be made through WallaceFuneralHome.com
