Mrs. Macaulay will always be Mrs. Macaulay to me. She told me Erma when I called her Mrs. Macaulay one day but I could never do that. She was my grade 8 teacher and at the end of my year I felt like I had accomplished so much. She was always immaculate and wore the same shade of pink finger nail polish all the time I knew her. She had a delightful, devilish smile. She had great patience with us all and was the only person I know of who could get her point across by "lowering" her voice. As I grew older, Mrs. Macaulay would always take time to catch up on what was going on in my life. She cared. I will always remember Mrs. Macaulay as a lady who brought out the best in me, with great respect. May she rest in peace. PS - please excuse any improper English!

All our condolences to Erma's family for her passing. We were touched by her kindness and joyfulness when in her presence. The kids Christine and Kevin certainly appreciated her for her attentiveness and support, when they saw her. Their late father Murray was a cousin and a student of Erma. We support you in grieving.

My heart is very heavy on hearing of the passing of Erma: She was such a wonderful lady whom I adored and have many wonderful memories of our time together while at Trinity Church in Sussex. I will cherish those memories of all those glorious times we spent together chatting and laughing and sharing stories. Erma spent a great portion of her life dedicated to the 3 things in her life that all began with F: Family, Friends and Faith. My deepest sympathies and condolences to her family and friends and may she soar with the angels: God Bless you Erma: Rest in Peace.

Respect. Lessons learned were not always from the text book, and grade 8 was a significant year in the Sussex schools if you were in Mrs Macauley's class. I think of the lessons daily- and feel fortunate to have been lead by Mrs. Macauley. Projects, public speaking, citizenship-we were shown how to present and prepare step by step with precision and detail. 20 years later Mrs Macauley returned a project that I did on Sussex. I have many fond memories of class time and appreciate the efforts of the teacher that often wore pink.
Rest In Peace.

I am saddened to learn of Irma's passing. I knew her from church, she was always interested in current affairs, and the world around her. I especially admired her style, and graciousness, a true lady in every sense.
I have missed seeing her in church, due to her failing health.
My sincere condolences.

My first introduction to Erma was during my years as a Girl Guide. In order to receive the Citizenship Badge, testing was the job of 'Mrs. Macauley'. She took the 'job' seriously and it was an honour to have passed. Many years later, she remembered that time and we had good chats about guiding. Erma was an artist and continued perfecting her craft during Art Classes at the Senior's Centre. She will be sadly missed!

I am deeply saddened to receive this news from my sister today. Mrs. MacAulay was my grade 8 homeroom teacher, my drama director for all 3 years of junior high, and my friend long afterwards. While I moved away from Sussex after graduating in 1989, we always seemed to connect when I was home visiting my parents from UNB, or from Vancouver Island. My mom would tell me that she ran into Erma somewhere and she always asked how I was doing with my job and with my music. I will miss her dearly. I will always be thankful to her for getting me through those awkward junior high years by helping build confidence in the drama club. Thank you Mrs. MacAulay.

As I remember Mrs. Macaulay it is with a happy heart. She was a talented teacher....one who respected her students...and in return was respected. Her quick wit and knowing smile is what I will remember. Years later when I'd see her, she would remember me by name and would still be interested in my life. (I'm sure she was the same with other students as well) Can only imagine the void of her passing will leave within your family. May God bring comfort.

To the Family and Circle of Friends of Erma MacAuley:
Extending to you sincere and deep condolences on this outstanding woman who inspired, and continues to inspire, my life through her gifted abilities as a teacher.
As I read her obituary I fondly recall being a student in her class and at Sussex Junior High School, the guidance she gave through her passion for teaching English and requiring her students to complete "Newspaper Projects" in scrapbooks (I think I still have some of these stored away after 30 years). It was a pleasure being one of her students.
It was also a great pleasure to visit with her each summer when she arrived at the greenhouse in Sussex Corner to acquire her summer plants (her preferred Geranium was called "FOX" - a dark red/burgundy colour) along with new tea roses to replace ones lost in winter. When she paid her bill she often would say, "This is my smoking and drinking money!" with a smile on her face.
Mrs. MacAuley was a woman of grace, kindness and fairness - along with a dedicated teacher and community member. Myself, like many others, have benefitted from her influence and guidance.
Thank you Mrs. MacAuley - rest peacefully.
