Obituary of Eleanor Gertrude Ness
Mrs. Eleanor Gertrude Ness of Sussex passed away peacefully at home surrounded by love and her family on September 16, 2018 at the age of 91. She was the daughter of the late Heber and Gertrude (Humphrey) Bell and wife of the late Robert Ness whom she spent 66 wonderful years with.
Eleanor was born in Mercer Settlement on October 31, 1926. She was raised on "The Searsville Road" and lived all her adult life at 71 Main St, Sussex. Eleanor graduated from Sussex High School in 1945 and then as an RN from Saint John General Hospital in 1948.
She enriched the lives of many others with her listening skills, engaging personality and strong sense of community. She had a very strong faith and was a member of St. Paul's United Church and life time member of the UCW. She enjoyed journeying through life with the "Club Girls". Eleanor's incredible commitment to family has been an example to all those who knew her. Her ability to give of herself to those that she loved is a gift that we all treasure.
Eleanor embraced life by connecting with friends and building memories with family.
The centerpiece of Eleanor's life was family, she will live on in the hearts of her daughters: Beth Nelson and her husband Darrell of Pictou, Heather Kenny and her husband Brad of Vancouver Island and Lorraine English and her husband Barry of Quispamsis; her son, Richard Ness and his wife Alice of Roachville; her brother-in-law, Ray Ness; her sisters-in-law: Mary Joynes and her husband Howard and Madeline Ness; 11 grandchildren: Dan (Nancy), Colleen (Peter), Rebecca (Karl), Katie, Patricia, Matthew (Sarah), Morgan (Dustin), Brent (Chelsea), John, Elizabeth (Jarrett) and Colin (Giselle); 12 great grandchildren: Jack Havel, Grace Eleanor, Lauren, Patrick, Ethan, Avery, Griffin, Ava Eleanor, Maya, Bryce, Davis and Jack Munn; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Eleanor is predeceased by her husband, Bob; her sons: Russell and Ross and by her sister, Gladys Pearson and her husband Doug.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3-5 and 7-9pm.
A service celebrating Eleanor's life will be held from St. Paul's United Church on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 2:00pm.
