James Coughlan

Obituary of James Wayne Coughlan

Mr. James Wayne Coughlan was born in Chatham, NB on September 21, 1948. He was the son of the late Aubrey and Laura (Adams) Coughlan.

Jim was a man who had three passions in life: his family, teaching and sports. He was a man with a huge heart, a contagious smile and a passion for life. This year Margaret and Jim would have celebrated 49 wonderful years together, over those years they would raise two beautiful children and watch them grow, fall in love and grow their family by adding four wonderful grandchildren. He was first and foremost a family man. His favorite place to be was Old Orchard Beach and he loved to drag the kids along. Time spent with his family was always his favorite pastime.

He taught for 22 years at the Norton Schools, several years as the travelling Phys. Ed teacher, five years at the Sussex and Apohaqui Schools and then on to the Middle School to teach English and Science; from where he retired in 2002.

Jim ate, slept and breathed sports. He was the past president of the Sussex Minor Hockey League and the Sussex Junior B Rangers, He coached everything in Norton from soccer and basketball to hockey and volleyball.  He played softball, golf and hockey and was the proud recipient of the Diamond Jubilee Award in recognition of his work and support in the community.

He will live on in the hearts of his loving wife of 49 years, Margaret (Dwyer) Coughlan; their children: Brad Coughlan and his wife Kelly of Millbrook and Tracy MacDougall and her husband Luke of Sussex; his sisters: Debbie Seidlitz and her husband Greg of Calgary and Tammy Coughlan and Dean Jones of Fredericton; his grandchildren: Cade and Kathryn Coughlan and Ian and Cullan MacDougall; his best friend, Donnie Gilles; as well as several nieces,  nephews and cousins.
