Obituary of Have Chiasson

Havelyn "Have" Elmer Chiasson

May 14, 1921 -- June 26, 2019

Have's loving family announce, with profound sadness, the peaceful passing of: Husband, Father, Father-in-law, Grampie and Papa, at the Dartmouth General Hospital, Dartmouth, NS following a very brief period of frailty.

Have was born "next to the lighthouse", on Miscou Island, NB.  His parents were William and Jane, "Janie" (Vibert)(Sivret) Chiasson.  He was the last surviving member of his family.  He was pre-deceased by his parents, and siblings: sisters Hazel, Florence, Marion, Nellie, Iris, Eunice; brothers Clyde, Kenneth and Lloyd.

Have was married to Rosamond "Roz" (Cumming) of Havlock, NB for 53 years.  They lived in Moncton, Sackville, Havelock and eventually chose Sussex as their final home from 1955-2010.  Have built the home himself for Roz, daughter Carolyn and father-in-law Alex.  Many happy family gatherings took place there, with Roz's cooking receiving rave reviews.

Have's careers, following his service during WW II with N.B.'s North Shore Regiment, included:  linesman with Eastern Electric, Manager/Supervisor of Eastern Electric (Moncton & Sackville NB), Entrepreneur/manager for his father-in-law's business/corner store, barber shop (Havelock, NB) and establishing his own business, "Have's Barber Shop", in Sussex for over 36 years.

Have's voluntary service include countless organizations, too numerous to mention:  Gideons, Kiwanis (Golden K), Legion Branch # 20 (Sussex, NB), United Church of Canada (Lay Preacher, Elder, and other positions), Billy Graham Association Crusade Organizer.

Have's most cherished trips were those commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of France (2014), accompanied by daughter Carolyn, where he read the Act of Remembrance on Juno Beach; and the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of Holland (2015), accompanied by Brian Agnew.  Most recently, in 2019, were his interviews and a CBC documentary, as part of the Anniversary of D-Day in Halifax.

Have's family, left with cherished memories are:  daughter Carolyn Steele (Bryan); grandsons Colin (Sarah McCann, (Ethan & Jayden)) and Neil Agnew, their father, Brian Agnew; great grand-daughter Madison Agnew,  all of Dartmouth, NS:  sisters-in-law;  Ruth (Ken) Chiasson of Bathurst, NB, Dot (Lloyd) Chiasson of Georgetown, PEI, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Have enjoyed life, and good health.  He leaves many friends, in many places, who will miss him greatly.  He loved lobsters and lighthouses.  His light is how shining brightly with Roz again...their bond unbroken.

“Lighthouses don't go running all over an island looking for boats to save; they just stand there shining” --- Anne Lamott
