Obituary of Ray Hall
Ray Lloyd Hall, 74, of Roachville, NB, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 14, 2019 at the Sussex Health Centre surrounded by his loving family. Ray was born in Sussex on July 3, 1945, the beloved and only child of the late Lloyd and Stella (Payne) Hall.
Ray is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Donna (Goddard), his sons Adam Hall (Wendy Wagner) of Halifax, NS, and Philip Hall, (Tammy MacDonald) of Riverview, NB, his daughter Sarah Vail (Guy Hebert) of Sussex Corner, NB, granddaughters Kathleen Vail, Victoria Vail, Devon Hall and Chase Hall, grandson Madox MacDonald Hall, and many dear cousins, extended family members, neighbours and special friends. Ray was a loving and dedicated husband, father, Papa and a friend to all.
Ray grew up on the family farm in Knightville where he developed his love of tractors and working the land. He graduated from Sussex High School in 1963. Ray was a skilled, hardworking carpenter and was accredited as a certified Red Seal Journeyman in 1971. In 1977 he started his own carpentry business called Professional Builders Limited which he operated until his retirement.
Ray had an unyielding commitment to doing a job properly. This diligence was reflected not only in the many homes, churches and barns he worked on, but also in things like the homemade swing set, hockey nets, dollhouse, and toys he made for his children. He poured many foundations, but the best foundation he laid was a home filled with love, kindness, and patience.
A true country boy, Ray enjoyed the simple things in life. He took great pleasure in feeding the birds every morning, going to the woods, gardening, driving his tractor, washing his truck, doing jigsaw puzzles and helping others.
A man of great integrity, Ray will be remembered for his quiet strength, his big, handsome smile that made his eyes crinkle up, his calm, steady and caring ways and his positive, peaceful demeanour. All of these admirable qualities were steadfastly displayed throughout his life, but especially during his incredibly brave 6 month journey with brain cancer. A heartfelt thank you is extended to the staff at the Sussex Health Centre for their excellent care and support given to Ray during his final months.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176). Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2019 from 1 to 3 pm and 6 to 8 pm, at Wallace’s. A Celebration of Ray’s Life will be held at St. Paul’s United Church on Friday, October 18, 2019 at 11:00 am, followed by interment at Roachville Cemetery.
