Obituary of Rachel Geraldine MacAskill

Mrs. Rachel Geraldine MacAskill was born in Edmundston on December 24, 1944; she was the daughter of the late Albert and Angelina (St-Onge) Roussel.

She absolutely loved her family and would do anything for any of them.  She always remembered birthdays and anniversaries for all her 9 siblings and their spouses along with her cherished MacAskill clan that were more like brothers and sisters than inlaws.

Her husband and daughters, no matter how much they teased her, were the centre of her world and she continued that love with her 5 grandsons who she adored more than anything and who adored her right back.

After settling in Sussex in 1983, Rachel made a career at the NB Milk Marketing Board where she probably spoke with every dairy farmer in the province.  She spent many years there with a great group of coworkers who she remained friends with after retirement.

Rachel was reserved, didn’t like being the centre of attention but she would always speak her mind.  She was honest and straight forward  and above all extremely caring.  

She did always enjoy spending time with her quilting buddies over the years at Church and all the lunch dates with the “girls on the hill”.  But mostly she enjoyed being in her home, taking care of her family.

She will be extremely missed.

She will live on in the hearts of her husband, Winston; her daughters: Lory-Ann MacAskill of Sussex and Colleen Foreman (Marty) of Oromocto; her brothers: Gilles Roussel and his wife Linda, Yvon Roussel and Robert Roussel and his wife Sylvain; her sister, Jacqueline Albert and her husband Bert; her brothers-in-law: Victor MacAskill and his wife Margaret, Neil MacAskill and his wife Joyce, Hughie MacAskill and his wife Barra and Conrad Ouellette; her sisters-in-law” Lucienne Roussel, Jacqueline Roussel and Bernice Naylor and her husband Bill; her grandchildren: Roddy Foreman, Alex Beach, Jason Beach, Patrick Foreman and Matthew Foreman; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rachel MacAskill passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on October 28, 2019 at the age of 74.

Along with her parents, she is predeceased by her infant son, Dean MacAskill; her sisters: Jeannine Daigle, Rina Ouellette and Germaine Laplante; her brothers: Maurice Roussel and Jacques Roussel.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex NB (506-433-1176).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church on Friday, November 1, 2019 at 11:00am.
