Hi Sheila and family.
I'm very sorry for your loss; Rod was a true leader in our industry and embraced it more than anybody that I had ever worked with. I'm honoured to have had the opportunity to have worked with him. We certainly need more leaders in our industry with high standards like Rod's.
He will be sorely missed.
thoughts and prayers,
Mike Petrina

I just heard about Rod's passing from Mom through Evelyn Golden. I am at a loss for words, but will try to share some memories. Growing up on Lane Avenue in Dowling, Rod was the first guy my age that I had met when we moved there from Levack, and we instantly became great friends. Over the years we had lost contact, that is until we met up on LinkedIn just after our 50th birthdays. I remember like it was yesterday when Rod, Art, and I got together in Moose Jaw during the Trans-Am trip from BC to NB in 2014! Sure things were different with us: we were older and grayer, but Rod still had the twinkle in his eye, and we enjoyed the evening catching up, and reminiscing about the past. I knew he had a wonderful life with a caring, loving family, and over the next five years, we would share photos, try to stay up-to-date through emails and via LinkedIn, and even resurrected the playful banter of calling ourselves Yendor (Rodney spelled backwards), and Nodrog! We also sent birthday wishes to each other. He was in my thoughts often especially when he was away from home with work. Rod was an amazing goaltender who singlehandedly won us the Pee-Wee House League trophy in 1976; as I look at this photograph today, I feel a sense of pride, and was truly blessed to have him as a friend.
To the family we know: Roy, Sandy, Robin and Kerry; the family he was extremely proud of, and grateful for: Sheila, Emilee, Kabil and Nicolas; and the extended Lamond family, you are in our thoughts and prayers as you grieve his passing. Rod was a remarkable man and will be dearly missed. I regret not being able to celebrate our 60th year together!

Apologies for this late message of condolence to Rodney's family, friends and colleagues. I was delighted to re-acquaint with Rod over the past year having last worked together in Timmins over 20 years ago. He had not lost his strong vision of what can be accomplished in mining projects, seeing through the problems to the solutions that others couldn't see, and was fearless to think out of the box. It was an even greater pleasure to have him recently join the board of Stratabound bringing his excellent industry credibility and visionary plans. It was inspiring to know him, work with him and he will indeed be deeply missed.

It is with a heavy heart that I forward this to you. Rod really embraced mining as a miner and as an engineer. He certainly was never afraid of a hard days work - whatever the challenge. A contribution that he made to mining safety that is little known is how he helped in the introduction of "Shotcrete" to the local mining industry. When you visit the Big Nickel Mine (Dynamic Earth) you will see the shotcrete that applied to the underground workings as part of the introduction of "Shoterete" seminar that was held in Sudbury around 30 years ago. And we must never forget his student thesis when he drove a drift into one of Ethier's quarries to research "Blast Damage" in the rock structure (along with Dr. Singh)... Those were the days......
I have many happy memories of Rod - what a terrific student, miner, engineer, and person he was.
Please share this.

Rod entered our lives when he decided to add to his mining experience by enrolling in the Laurentian School of Engineering. A close friendship developed during this time, which we were able to maintain beyond Rod's school days. One reunion was memorable because although he was unable to get away from Nanisivik in the high arctic to attend, he took part anyhow by telephone (a lot more expensive and unusual in those landline days).
Rod has been and will remain in our thoughts whenever we get together. Our sincere condolences to Sheila and all of Rod's family.
Salute from your Laurentian buddies Henry, Mark, and Dave

Sandra and Roy. So sorry to hear of your loss. I had the pleasure of working with Rodney in the late eighties when he was an operator at Potacan. It was very impressive to see Rodneys accomplishments over years in the mining industry. You must have been very proud. Thinking of you and the family.
