Obituary of Rodney D. Lamond
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rodney David Lamond which occurred on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at his summer home in Cambridge Narrows, New Brunswick, at the age of 55. He was the son of Roy and Sandra (Bailey) Lamond.
Besides his parents, Rodney is also survived by his dearly beloved wife Sheila; daughter Emilee; sons: Kabil and Nicolas: sisters Robin and her husband Mike, Kerry and her husband Todd. Uncle Rod was cherished by his niece and four nephews: Peyton, Everett, Aaron and Jesse and spouses David and Sam. He will also be deeply missed by many long-time friends, neighbors and the many, many people he worked with in the Mining Industry.
Born in Sudbury, Ontario, Rodney graduated from Laurentian University with a Bachelor of Engineering in Mining in 1991. As a Mine Business Professional, Rod had been at the helm of many different companies and was Chairman for Jaguar Mining Inc., President & Chief Executive Officer at Jerritt Canyon Gold LLC, and on the board of Stratabound Minerals Corp.
Some of Rodney’s previously held positions were Group General Manager at Nyrstar NV and General Manager at Breakwater Resources Ltd. (a subsidiary of Nyrstar NV); President, Chief Executive Officer & Director at Jaguar Mining; President, Chief Executive Officer & Director at Crocodile Gold Corp.; Vice President-Operations for Gold Hawk Resources, Inc.; and Chief Operating Officer at Newmarket Gold, Inc.
Rodney’s passion for mining took him and his family to many wonderful mining areas in the world such as Honduras, where two of his children were born, as well as Peru, Chile, Australia, Brazil, USA and several regions in Canada including the High Artic.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex (506-433-1176) from where a private service was held for family and friends. A public Celebration of Rodney’s life will be held later in the Summer with arrangements to be announced.
