Obituary of Bert Norrad
It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Ethelbert “Bert” Norrad, which occurred at his residence on Friday, July 10, 2020 at the age of 86. He was born in Sussex, NB on February 7, 1934, he was the husband of Ruth (Mott) Norrad and son of the late Allwyn and Sybil (Snider) Norrad.
Bert was known for his love of music, computer technology, good food and family. His motto was "Always Do the Right Thing". He could often be found volunteering and sharing his love of music for any benefits, dance halls, jamborees or in your kitchen. He was also a proud member of the Kennebec Four. Bert was highly involved with his community and member of several organizations. Bert was a very proud member of the Sussex Branch #20 Legion, where he was presented with a Certificate of Marit for his loyalty.
Bert was never afraid of hard work and worked many jobs. He began working at a young age, with his Father on the Pulp Truck while still in high school. Bert was a 17 year employee of Canadian Tire on Main St. He then became the Office Manager with Irving in Sussex. Bert then took employment with the Penobsquis Potash Mines, where he brought the world of computer technology to the Mines from where he later retired.
Bert was highly involved and respected for his progressive ideas, in the Hamm Radio World, latest Computer, phone technology or just about any gadget. Bert was humble and always passed on his knowledge. Bert never liked taking any recognition for his accomplishments, he was very gracious man.
We would like to thank Sussex Extra Mural. We would also like to give special thanks to Home Care staff: Marie Estey, Meaghan McNeil, Karen Hayward and Abby Carten. Thank you to everyone, who took their time to spend with Bert in his last few months.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Ruth; daughter Heather (Joe) Losier of Sussex; grandson Jesse Losier of Sussex; sisters: Gerry (Bill) Kyte, Darlene Baxter, Ruby (Pat) McMackin, Nancy Norrad; sisters-in- law: Pat Berry, Shirley Norrad and Cathy Norrad, Pat (Ove) Samuelson, Lily Barnes, Verna Mott; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son Randy; special niece Faith; brothers: Paul, Jack, Ansel, Dale and sister Zona Smith.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex (506-433-1176). Due to COVID-19 the funeral service will be held privately. Interment will take place in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Sussex.
