Dear family - I was saddened to learn of Walter's passing in our local newspaper even though I really didn't know him at all. I however can recall my Mother (Margaret Patterson Lake) and my grandparents (Jennie Grace Long and Walter Patterson) talking about "young Walter" in the fondest of terms. I met Walter just once many years ago when I was a boy at a reunion of some kind at a farm in Long Creek. I recall meeting a lot of Secord and Long relatives that hot summer day about 65 years ago and I left there with a warm feeling knowing that I had spent the day with good and down-to-earth honest people who knew the true value of family relationships.
