Obituary of Louella Olive Allen

Miss Louella Olive Allen was born in Dufferin, Queens County on April 26, 1916; she was the daughter of the late Isaac Wesley and Mary Isabel (Laskey) Allen. Louella had a quick wit and was full of constant chatter. She loved to talk about current events and could repeat any story she watched on Live at 5. Her other favourite programs were the Sunday Church Service from Maine and the Country Jamboree on the radio. Louella also loved all of the worlds little creatures from cats and dogs to geese and goats. Another true love of Louella's was music. Her friend Lori Muir took her to many musical functions. Louella was always up dancing and had great rhythm even though she was well into her nineties. Those who knew her best; knew her as the "life of the party" and that you couldn't make her a cup of tea that was too hot, although Marty came the closest. She loved Johnny Cash and Johnny Reid so much so that she carried around their cd's in her purse; but there were a few local musicians that she held very near and dear to her heart: Fred Shaw, Wilmot Owens, Randy Vail and Debbie Connell. Louella was also known for her smooth skin; she was a Noxzema and Dove soap girl from an early age and took great pride in her skin. Louella will live on in the hearts of her son, Barry Austin of Minto; her sister, Lilly McLenaghan of Miramichi; two grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Her adoptive daughters: Shelley Phillips and her husband Marty of Codys, Pam Smith and her husband Mike of Codys, Lynne Starkey and Norman Roy of Sussex; her adoptive grandchildren: Andrea Gibbs and her husband Benjamin of Rothesay, Meagan Hamper and her husband Rodney of Petitcodiac and their children: Alexis and Zachary, Greg Smith and Amy Lunnie of Fredericton, Julie Smith of Moncton, Susan Mills and Shane Bradford of Saint John, Tara Brown and her husband Kelty of Saint John, Lisa Mowbray and her husband Jake of Ontario and Charlene Lafferty and her husband Jim of Moncton; as well as their mother Persis Steeves. Miss Louella Olive Allen of Hampton, formerly of Codys, passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on March 31, 2012 at the age of 95. She is predeceased by her sister Edna DeMerchant and by her adoptive family: Nina, Frank, Charles and Donald Starkey. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), where visitation will be held on Thursday, April 5th from 12:30 to 2:00 pm. A service celebrating Louella's life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 2:30 pm with Nancy McCormick officiating. The interment will take place at Coles Island Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations made to the Coles Island Pentecostal Church or to the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. A sincere thank you to Whitehall Estates for the exceptional care, love and concern shown for Louella's happiness and well being. Jann, her caregivers and the residents treated her like family and she grew to love you all in such a short time. www.wallacefuneralhome.com
